Your smile is more than about just your teeth; your gums play a vital role as well. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your gums, there are several procedures that can be administered to help you love your smile once again.

Sometimes we see patients that were just born with gums that they do not like while other times it is due to gum disease, brushing too hard, or an unhealthy diet/lifestyle habits.

•	Crown lengthening - This procedure is necessary when you have excessive gums that give you that "gummy" smile or make your teeth look short. It involves us removing the excess tissue and sculpting the tissue that remains to provide a smooth, pleasing appearance.
•	Gum grafting - If your teeth suddenly look longer, you could be experiencing receding gums. This occurs with gum disease or excessive pressure while brushing your gums. The tissue is taken from your body when available. This procedure helps to make your smile more pleasing while also enhancing your oral health at the same time.
•	Caring for gum disease - If your gums are swollen or bleeding, it could be a sign of gum disease. The earlier that this disease is caught, the easier it is to cure. If it is not caught in its earliest stages, called gingivitis, it cannot be cured, but the symptoms can be treated and the disease prevented from becoming worse. This treatment will help you have a happier smile and better breath - a win-win situation!
